You get so much more out of helping
My family has been involved with Camp for All for many years. Camp for all is a great camp in Washington County, Texas for kids with special needs and long-term illnesses. It allows kids to do things that other children take for granted during their camp experience, like horseback riding, fishing, and riding a zipline.
Every year, Camp for All has a Family Day. Family Day is open to all families of campers and individuals that support the camp. Families can tour the camp and participate in some of the activities that the campers do. My family has been going to Family Day ever since I was a toddler. We have gone as visitors and as volunteers.
Last year, my dad and I participated in the CFA Hilltop Ride. This bike ride starts and finishes at the camp close to Brenham. You can take the 22-mile, 44-mile, or 66-mile ride. This ride helps raise money for CFA and is a lot of fun. We rode 22 miles last year, but we are hoping to make 44 miles at the ride this year on April 5. My dad and I would like to make it an annual event.
From going to Family Day to riding in the Hilltop Ride, getting involved with CFA is a great thing. You get so much more out of helping the camp than you give to the camp. On my 12th birthday, I asked for donations to CFA instead of gifts.
This spring, my advisory at St. John’s School is going to CFA for our community service project. We will help get the camp ready for the summer campers by painting fences, planting, etc. I am excited to show my friends how cool the camp is and how it is designed to meet the needs of the campers.
I think it would be fun to be a counselor at CFA one day.
