Marty McFly would be psyched
Cheryl Boblitt and Aimee Snoots joined 550 others in March to channel the ‘80s as they celebrated the 2011 Covenant House Texas (CHT) Spring Gala at the Hilton Americas. Themed “Back For Their Future,” the evening raised almost $700,000 as CHT honored Miriam Mulva and Jim Mulva, CEO of ConocoPhillips, for the couple’s continued support and commitment to CMT’s homeless- and runaway-youth programs. Welcome to our world
The Veuve was flowing at Sunday brunch for everyone except mommy-to-be Megan Sutton Reed. Nearest and dearest showered Megan with attention on the RDG + Bar Annie patio in anticipation of Baby Braxton’s arrival in June. This will be son No. 2 for Megan and Chris Reed, and 5-year-old Brady Reed can’t wait for his brother. Hostesses Laurel Blando, Kelli Tumey, Stephanie Perkins, Christie Sullivan, Susan Plank and Natalie Reitman (pictured, from left) helped orchestrate a fantastic afternoon filled with sunshine and smiles. Also toasting was Jessica “BulletGirl” Meyer (who gets her nickname from her line of jewelry).
Floral, straw, lace and tulle
Fabulous hats were suggested but not required at this year’s “Hats Off To Mothers” fundraiser for Easter Seals (formerly United Cerebral Palsy). Ten outstanding Houston mothers, including Fatima Mawji, Eileen Lawal and Raquel Segal, were honored for their contributions to the community. Over 450 flooded the ballroom at the River Oaks Country Club at this quintessential spring “ladies who lunch” kick-off, which raised $155,000 for people with disabilities. The honorees are pictured (from left) Melissa Mithoff, Kara Kinder Howes, Raquel Segal, Kirby McCool, Nancy Levicki, Dr. Fatima Mawji, Kelli Blanton, Cynthia Deutser Anhalt, Phoebe Tudor and Eileen Lawal.

Pretty in pink
“Kissed by an Angel – Girls Night Out” oozed femininity, glam, fabulousness and PINK! This second annual fundraiser for the Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer was chaired by sisters-in-laws Raquel Segal and Jennifer Segal and held at the home of Amy and Peter Shaper. The 300 gorgeous ladies observed the dress code to a T and wore all shades of pink while sipping rosé served by pink-clad husbands of the hostesses. Over $135,000 was raised through silent auction, ticket sales, and sales of exclusive Alexandra Knight pink and white alligator “cuffs for care.” The cuffs doubled as drawing entries for a pinkish-beige Chanel 2.55 bag. (The legendary double-flap, quilted design is called 2.55, to note its creation in February 1955.) Lisa Leads, Laura Herring, Tricia Dewhurst, Lucinda Loya, Anita Gaylor, Christine Hoffer, Elizabeth Dukes, Nidhika and Pershant Mehta, Susanna Moldaw, and Dr. Korsh Jafania were among those who bid generously to honor kids with cancer. Pictured (from left) are Karen Susman, Raquel Segal, Natalie Horlock, and Melissa Mithoff.
Yee-haw
Paula Robinson, first lady of the 2011 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and member of the Houston Junior Forum (HJF), arranged to have the 65th anniversary of HJF recognized during the grand-entry parade for the March 15 rodeo with musical guest KISS. Pictured after the parade on the grounds of Reliant Stadium are (from left) Jerre Williams, Janet Juban, Paula Robinson, Peggy Swoboda and Paula Howeth. Paula’s husband, HLS&R Chairman Butch Robinson, joined the women in applauding HJF’s support of services for children, youth and senior adults.
Fly like an eagle
Boy Scout Troop 599 recognized five Eagle Scouts at an Eagle Court of Honor held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. Pictured are (from left) St. Thomas Catholic High School senior Sam Tormey, 17; Stratford High School sophomore Trevor Jackson, 16; Westside High School senior Josh Reese, 18; Westchester Academy of International Studies senior Ethan Davis, 18; and Westside High School junior Louis Norman, 17. The scouts’ projects ranged from an 8-foot-tall owl cage for Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation (made by Sam) to coordinating a used DVD/video game drive for Texas Children’s Hospital (Trevor).
A new day
More than 100 guests welcomed the Persian New Year at the home of Sheri Khatami at her annual celebration. Traditional delicacies included Persian kookoo, an herb soufflé with a yogurt and cucumber mixture, grape-leaf dolmas, Persian hot tea, and a variety of special cookies made just for the holiday. The Persian New Year marks the March Vernal Equinox, signifying the beginning of spring, new growth, and the greenness of nature. Joining in the fun were Connie Haddox, Roshanak Far, Anne Heyburn, Barbara Files, Fariba Radfar and (pictured from left) party hostess Sheri Khatami, Carol Greene and Jan McMillan.
Trailer-park chic
Oscar and Shelly Brown, Jerry and Nannette Finger, Jon and Karen Finger, Jesse and Cathy Marion, Bill and Kelly Montgomery, Stephen Morse, Roger and Connie Plank, Rob and Susan Reedy, and Paul and Millicent Wear dolled up in their finest “trailer-park chic” attire to celebrate the Alley Theatre’s annual gala. The event, which has a reputation of having fabulously creative themes (last year’s “Jet Setter” was held at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum), fell on April Fool’s Day. Armadillo races, Ritz crackers, Cheese Whiz, and shopping-cart lounge chairs were just several of the oh-so-clever Richard Flower’s decoration details. This was by far the snazziest trailer park in town.
Lucky pennies
For two weeks, students at Frostwood Elementary searched under sofa cushions, inside drawers, on car-floor mats and in their backpacks for loose change. The students were able to round up 213,800 cents ($2,138) to donate to Pennies for Patients for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The fundraiser was organized by (pictured, from left) third grader Kendra Evans and fifth grader Clayton Bornman. Teachers Jennifer Money, Elizabeth Kidd and Michelle White helped out with the creative effort to support children battling leukemia and other blood cancers.
