A group of first graders from The Shlenker School, including Ariel Hollander, Kylan Spiegel, Galya Chosnek and Mia Powers (pictured, from top to bottom), left campus for a special mission. They went on the field trip to BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions to read to homeless dogs who are waiting for permanent homes. Student Juliet Dow said, “We showed the dogs what it feels like to be with a family.” Sydney McIngVale said, “I think it was really great because you were helping yourself and you were helping the dog. I think it was amazing because the dog got to hear you read and you got to look at the dog and see how they were feeling. You’re doing a really great thing and it was really fun.” Michael Weiner said, “It felt good to read to the dog because I usually don’t get to see dogs. If people go near them when they try to adopt them they can get used to being with people more.” Looking to add a furry friend to your home? See houstontx.gov/barc.
