Rachel Dietert and Meredith Frederking

Rachel Dietert (pictured) jumps up for a spike after Meredith Frederking sets the ball on the second day of Memorial Middle School eighth-grade volleyball tryouts. Dietert and Frederking were two of the 126 eighth-grade girls who came to the three-day tryouts. On the first day, girls learned the basics of the sport, on the second day they worked on hitting and serving, and on the last day they scrimmaged.  Coaches selected players for the A and B teams, which are based on skill level, and the others were assigned to one of eight “color” teams. Dietert was on the Red Team last year and is on the Maroon Team this year, and Frederking is starting her second year on the A Team. “I’m most excited to work on improving my skills and getting to play with my teammates this year,” Frederking said.
